How to Maximize the Benefits of Attending the AAD Annual Meeting

Feb 17, 2023 | For Candidates, For Employers

You’re carving out time from your busy schedule to attend the Annual AAD Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of this valuable investment…

Sessions, Sessions and More Sessions

With more than 375 educational sessions available, plenty of learning opportunities are scheduled during this year’s event. These sessions are often a main highlight for AAD meeting attendees.

“I have been coming to these meetings since 1984. The educational sessions are always rich, but the accessibility to the speakers after the presentation and meeting with colleagues to discuss what we’ve heard, as well as our own challenge in case, it’s what raises the meeting to a must do.”

With so many options, it’s easy to want to do all the things. Yet, trying to cram too many sessions into five days (that already seem to fly by!) can leave you feeling overwhelmed and frazzled.

Remember you have the option to purchase session recordings. So pick the sessions that mean the most to you to attend in person. Ask yourself…

  • Which sessions pique my interest the most?
  • Which presenters would I want to connect with on a specific topic?
  • Which sessions would impact my practice or provide the most value for my patients?

Give yourself space after sessions to elaborate on any notes you’ve taken or have free-flowing discussions with colleagues. These moments between sessions can be just as valuable for networking and career growth as the main events.

Networking is What It’s All About

As the nation’s largest dermatology recruitment firm, we cannot overstate the importance of forging professional connections. And the AAD Annual Meeting offers one of the best networking opportunities.

More than 8,000 medical personnel and over 350 exhibiting companies are expected to be at this year’s meeting. So bring plenty of business cards to share with both colleagues and exhibitors.

Check out this interactive exhibit hall map and plan to visit myDermRecruiter at booth #1067. We’ll have some exciting news to share about our latest innovations in the dermatology career search industry!

And if you’re a dermatology provider looking to make a career move, there’s no better place to be on March 17th than at the AAD Dermatology Career Fair. It’s a free event, but you do need to register ahead of time.

Reflect on Your Experience

The AAD Annual Meeting is an exhilarating event. But before returning to your everyday routines at home, set aside some time to process what you learned.

Review your notes and event materials. Use the following questions to guide your reflection time.

  • Which sessions provided the biggest takeaways?
  • What takeaways can you implement into your practice? How?
  • What takeaways would your colleagues find impactful?
  • What products or equipment do you want to learn more about?
  • What would improve your experience for next year’s meeting?
  • Who did you meet that you would like to follow up with? How do you plan to do that?

Following up with contacts via phone, email or social media within a week of the meeting is critical. This ensures meeting details are still top-of-mind for those you’re contacting.

Whether it’s your first time or you’re a meeting regular, we hope these tips will help you maximize the benefits of attending this enriching dermatology conference.

Please be sure to stop by booth #1067. We truly enjoy meeting new dermatology professionals and reconnecting with past clients and candidates! And feel free to contact us anytime regarding our dermatology recruitment services.
