Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May 1, 2019 | For Employers, News & Events

September is National Skin Care Awareness Month, which makes it the perfect time to remind patients just how crucial it is to maintain a skincare routine.

Encouraging your patients to find a healthy skincare routine that helps them to look and feel good is a great way to raise awareness of the importance of skincare this month. As a professional in the field of dermatology, patients come to you seeking treatments and advice for a variety of skin problems. Patients often think only high-dollar creams and invasive procedures can fix these problems. However, looking and feeling good starts with the basics.

The American Academy of Dermatology suggests these ten easy skincare tips for promoting healthy skin—from the inside out! Everyone can benefit from these suggestions. Offering a few simple ideas such as using SPF regularly or advising an acne-prone patient to avoid overly scrubbing their face empowers patients to take skincare into their own hands.

Although these tips seem obvious to a dermatologist, remember that your patients are not experts on skincare. They need help understanding how external factors can impact the health and appearance of their skin, as well as the best methods for meeting their unique skin needs. So you—being the skincare expert—have the opportunity to help your patients achieve their goals and feel good in their own skin! Use the AAD’s suggestions for healthy skin to guide your patients in developing a skincare routine they can feel good about.
